Zoning

Purpose of Zoning

Kingsville Township has passed zoning regulations “for the purpose of protecting the public health, safety, comfort, and general welfare.”  Specifically, the township wishes to “promote a community that is residential in character with a rural and historical identity balanced by a strong local economy that supports essential services.”

Zoning Structure

There are 3 major components to zoning in any township.  They are the Zoning Inspector, who enforces the rules, the Zoning Commission, who create the rules, and the Zoning Board of Appeals, who interpret the rules. Just like at the federal level where there is a division of power between the three branches of government, the executive, legislative, and judicial, these three entities work in conjunction to implement zoning at the township level.
